Razer is a company that creates accessories for games, and now Razer has created its first pair of truly wireless earphones with low-latency gaming mode and reduced audio. You’d say that the Hammerhead True Wireless earphones sound good in their class, they’re not fancy looking, but they’re great for exercise. Hammerhead true also offers a loud bass sound and a balanced sound if you’re using it to play games.

Design and Features

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless

The Razer Hammerhead True earphones are designed similarly to Apple’s AirPods, but in a black version and with Razer specs. You’d think the earbud-and-stem design would be familiar to Apple fans, even with the ear tips that stick in the ear but don’t go into the ear. There’s a slight difference because Razer doesn’t use silicone seals for the ear tips. These earphones are IPX4 rated, which means they’re water-resistant, but not a lot of water, just a little sweaty after a workout. An IPX5 rating or better is preferred if you want earphones for the gym.

Razer Hammerhead True on The back of each earpiece features a glossy black panel affixed to the green Razer logo. This panel is a touch-sensitive keypad with mirror controls on both sides. Audio latency is generally not too much of an issue for gaming, just that you’ll find it a bit annoying because it’s sometimes a bit late by half a second. But this is not a serious problem. Because only occasionally, the rest is very good in this earphone section.

Razer Hammerhead True designed a charging case inspired by Apple’s earphones in the form of a simple black pillbox with an indicator light on the front and a lanyard hole for the included wrist strap on the left. Razer claims that the earphones last up to four hours, and the case can add another 12 hours. It is pretty low for truly wireless earphones.

The Razer Hammerhead doesn’t have an in-channel seal, but these earphones are loud and deliver deep bass. Even with the steady thumping of drums and bass getting more and more present, the melodic vocals and sound of the marching band are also heard in the background quite clearly in the mix and are receiving a lot of attention on their own. The electric bass sounds deep and punchy, and the guitar strum, drums, and vocals can all be distinguished at lower frequencies. It’s not perfect, maybe the bass response would have been better with a seal in the channels, and the higher frequencies were less crispy, but the sound quality is solid for the price.

Microphone performance is also strong. Test recordings sound full and clear enough, capturing a little background noise but keeping your voice prominent and easy to understand. It can’t match the boom mics of good gaming headsets or dedicated USB mics, but the earphones are also decent enough for gaming because they meet sound standards and have a microphone that can hear when playing games. However, these earphones prioritize listening to music or using when exercising.
