Razer brings Haptics to the gaming headset arena with the flagship model of its new Nari line of wireless headsets. Razer offers 3 Nari models: Nari, Nari Essential, and Nari Ultimate. The Nari Ultimate is the only model with built-in Razer Chroma lighting and Haptics. So it’s like a simulation of having a subwoofer strapped to your skull. The Nari is the same headset as the Chroma, but it isn’t. Nari Essential is a barebones version with a similar design but smaller drivers and no haptics or Chroma. All three offer THX Spatial Sound.
Design and Features
The Razer Nari headset looks the same regardless of the price. There is a metal headband with a padded suspension band underneath. The earcups stay in a fixed vertical position but rotate to lie flat against your chest when hanging around your neck or for fine-tuning placement over your ears. Thick foam earcup cushions remain comfortable to wear for a long time. The mute microphone button is located on the back of the left earcup. There’s also a game/chat mixer scroll wheel, power button, Micro USB charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and retractable boom mic. On the right, it’s much less populated, with just a volume scroll wheel and a spring-loaded slot for a 2.4GHz wireless USB dongle.
Razer Nari Ultimate Clean, minimal, and monochrome design until you turn it on and the Razer RBG logo on the earmuffs lights up. As far as Haptics go, Razer uses significant 50mm drivers and proprietary software for what Haptics calls HyperSense. Haptics mimics how the subwoofer’s bulky driver operates by driving the motor at the same frequency as the aerial subwoofer.
Software
The Razer Nari Ultimate uses Razer’s Synapse 3.0 software to adjust the headset’s EQ, set audio presets, and change the earcup LEDs’ color, brightness, and display pattern. If you’re familiar with Synapse, you know what to expect. Synapse is easy to use and intuitive enough that others should have no trouble getting it up to speed. Since this is PC software, you will need to plug the wireless adapter into your computer to make changes, disconnect, and reconnect to your console. While there are tons of settings you can adjust, the most interesting one is the Haptics intensity slider, which also lets you turn off the Haptics at the same time if you don’t want your head to shake a bit.
