The Razer Basilisk V3 is a gaming mouse with several advantages. Gaming-specific manufacturers have perfected peripherals, from ergonomic designs to colorful RGB lighting to robust software suites. The Basilisk V3 has all that, but it also has something that has never appeared in a gaming mouse before: an auto-adjusting scroll wheel. While this is more of a productivity feature, it is more valuable than ever in a population that works and plays games at home every day.
The scroll wheel is a standout feature of Basilisk V3, but there’s a lot more to love, from the textured grip to the excellent in-game performance. My only major complaint is that the newly added sniper button is much more flexible than the customizable paddles of the previous model, which can indeed be a drag for competitive players.
The design of the Razer Basilisk V3 Mouse hasn’t changed much in terms of shape since the last model came out. It’s still very comfortable to hold, mainly due to the textured thumb rest and textured grip for the outer two fingers. At 5.1 x 2.4 x 1.7 inches, it fits hands big and small, and at 3.6 ounces, it’s neither too light nor too heavy.
The most exciting thing about the basilisk is the RGB lighting, which is very dominant. Like other Razer mice, the Basilisk V3 features an illuminated scroll wheel and a palm-rest logo. However, you also get an LED under the glow strip this time around, which produces more than 20 programmable lighting zones. You’ll be content to let it run in a rainbow pattern, but you can get creative if you want.
The Razer Basilisk V3 is available with an optical mouse switch, Razer’s second generation. The result is still as smooth and clicky as ever and feels a little lighter to the touch without sacrificing control. There are 10 programmable buttons here to complete the pack, plus a profile shift at the bottom of the mouse. That’s a lot of additional configuration that doesn’t take up too much space on more significant pointers.
You’ll find the sideways push mapping on the scroll wheel very helpful in your war games. But most enjoyable with the sniper trigger button placed at the tip of the thumb. When pressed, this button slows down your DPI for more precise shots. If you push that Focus+ sensor to its limit, you may have to set up that trigger button. This pointer can max out 26K DPI, though it’s worth noting that you rarely need to reach those heights. It is a first for Razer, giving the Basilisk V3 a solid place in our lineup of the best Razer mice.
