Razer often refines its products rather than redesigning or creating other products. for example, we can look like BlackWidow X Chroma. Razer pursued a refinement strategy, as it’s just a BlackWidow Chroma keyboard. However, with a metallic base plate as a redesign. The keyboard’s strengths include decent mechanical switches, terrific software, and solid performance.
Design and Keys
BlackWidow keyboard, maybe, you are used to it. X is just a variation on it. Like the standard BlackWidow line, the X is designed with full-size, keyless, or full-size options plus a macro buttons row. BlackWidow keyboards, until recently, still used a plastic plate, which hides the bottom of the keycaps. The X variant takes a much more stripped-down approach. The front plate is made of metal, slim and light profile. You can see each button and the switch root below it, like row upon row of shark teeth. It’s a cool look that’s not overly aggressive or obnoxious.
The BlackWidow X Chroma chooses a Razer Green button with a fantastic sound and a Razer Orange switch, which is silent. If you look at the design, the details are very general for BlackWidow. But I wish it had a slightly better button.
While the BlackWidow X Chroma impresses a design perspective, its distinctive style can be a double-edged sword. Deeper keycaps mean more gaps between buttons. The metal faceplate means that the keyboard is placed heavily on the table and often feels cold to the touch. Given some time with BlackWidow X, maybe you will be able to adjust to his habits. But for experienced touch typists, be prepared for some hurdles to get your way.
However, the BlackWidow X Chroma doesn’t use the USB passthrough of the regular BlackWidow model. But other than that, the X Chroma has everything you’d expect, from a full-sized keyboard. Plus, there’s whole RGB light, at least in the Chroma version. Other variations have only one color or no lighting at all.
Speaking of Chroma, at least, the backlight is beautiful. Razer’s Chroma device offers 16.8 million colors and looks incredibly rich without the plastic faceplate. Metal plates reflect colors and give them a deep and lively look. The Razer Synapse software is also quite simple to transform them and add fun effects like rainbow waves and swirling colors. This program makes it easy to program macros, change lighting, or reprogram a key to your desired keyboard or mouse function.
