Anansi is a trickster god in a spider from West African myth. Razer gave the name of the keyboard product with the name of a legendary figure. The Razer Anansi isn’t nearly as deceptive as the name suggests. This Keyboard is a straightforward and comfortable device with some valuable features for MMO gamers.

Anansi is also well integrated with the Razer Naga Mouse lineup, such as the Razer Naga Epic MMO mouse, allowing you to switch the functions of the mouse’s 12-button keypad via Anansi’s thumb changer, taking laziness to the next level. It may sound a little petty, but in thrilling and complex MMO battles, it’s a powerful thing, and once mastered, you’ll probably never want to attack any other way again.

The Anansi is a beautiful keyboard. At 20.2 in x 7.5 in, which is very reasonable. Anansi can fit into your existing desktop settings. The Keyboard also features a sleek and asymmetrical design with some of the most aggressive letters I have seen on a keyboard. On the one hand, it appeals to the teenage boy demographic that Razer likes to court.

On the other hand, you can light everything up with a bright pink color thanks to the adjustable backlight. The lighting itself works, and the ability to choose any color on the spectrum, from solid white to bright red to deep blue, is a nice touch. However, the colors tend to fade, especially in a bright room.

Anansi has Synapse 2.0 software, one of the more comprehensive programs on the market. With Synapse, you can control keyboard lighting, record and program macros, and customize keyboard play modes. Give the player five macro buttons, linking profiles to individual games, and many different colors. This way, players can easily program different shapes for all of their games and don’t have to deal with additional rows of keys. Moving the macro record button closer to the function key dramatic simplifies the recording process. Creating new macros on the fly with Anansi is much easier than with Razer Deathstalker or BlackWidow, and less likely to get errors.

A keyboard turns on and off with its keys, and in that case, Anansi can live another day. The peripheral also features five macro buttons on the far left and seven thumb buttons just below the spacebar, in addition to the standard set of controls. I first noticed about Anansi was how comfortable it felt, especially compared to most membrane keyboards. The keys feel relatively resistant, with a 65g actuation, although they don’t satisfy mechanical models’ satisfying click and clack. And the 4mm critical distance makes it easy to type without confusing words.
However, don’t expect Anansi to revolutionize the way you type.

On the Ten Thumbs Typing Test, I scored 110 words per minute with an error rate of 3 percent on a standard Dell office keyboard. But only 101 words per minute with an error rate of 1 percent on Anansi. Pressing the Anansi button takes more power than you are used to, and slowing down reduces your error rate. Anansi might not be the best choice if you need some severe typing tools. The macro keys are well-placed, and the macro record key is right next to the function keys rather than the center of the Keyboard.
